Sprints

Labs Sprints are focused more on producing either code, reviews for code, completing Canvas materials, meeting with Stakeholders, and the like; however, seeing as we want to replicate what it will be like out in the wild, the first sprint is dedicated to onboarding and situating yourself enabling you to produce contributive and meaningful code to the repos.

Sprints in Labs are not going to be like the rest of core curriculum as Labs curriculum is focused on giving you the skills needed to succeed in your new career.

Sprint 1: Onboarding

  • Review the Product Roadmap

  • Dig into Canvas Module 1

  • Set up your local environment

  • Review the Repos; there are 2 for DS, underdog-devs-ds-a and underdog-devs-docs

  • Peruse Jira and familiarize yourself with the Kanban board

  • Get to know your fellow developers as Pair Programming is a necessity in Labs

Sprint 2: Building

  • Really dive into Jira and start assigning tasks and creating sub-tasks

  • Code it up! Pair programming is a must so don’t forget to code with others!

  • Review any PRs that are waiting to be merged

  • Keep making progress in Canvas

  • Source jobs

Sprint 3: Refining

  • Continue to code and submit PRs

  • Don’t forget to submit Reviews for your teammates’ PRs

  • PRs and Reviews should increase in quality

  • Canvas should be nearing completion

  • Apply to the jobs previously sourced

Sprint 4: Polishing

  • Complete any lingering PRs or Reviews

  • PRs and Reviews should be professional quality

  • Finish Canvas material

  • Complete outreach to applied jobs
